The story behind the name
“Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.”
— John 21:11
After the resurrection, Peter goes back to fishing. He’s the one who denied Jesus three times. He’s the one whose ministry looked over. He’s the one most people would have written off.
Jesus shows up on the beach. The catch is impossibly large. The net, somehow, doesn’t break. And then comes the conversation that gives Peter his comeback: “Do you love me? Feed my sheep.”
The number 153 isn’t random in that story. It’s the moment a broken leader is restored and handed a flock to care for. The whole arc is about a comeback — from failure, from drift, from being counted out.
That’s why the company behind Operating.Church is named 153 Comeback Inc. We build tools for pastors who are carrying too much, who’ve watched members quietly fade, who have a sermon they haven’t turned into anything yet. The whole point is restoration — of attention, of follow-through, of the relationships that matter.
Operating.Church is the operating system. 153 is the story under it.
